PHOENIX (March 16, 2022) – Millions of dollars in newly announced federal funding will be distributed to 32 programs that help provide housing and services to people experiencing homelessness in the Maricopa County region.
“This award will help to strengthen the region’s ability to care for families, youth and individuals with no place to call home,” said Riann Balch, co-chair of the Maricopa Regional Continuum of Care Board. “We know that housing is critical in ending homelessness, and this award helps us continue our mission of getting people into more permanent and stable housing.”
On March 14, 2022, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) announced Continuum of Care program grant funding to provide critically needed support to local programs serving individuals and families experiencing homelessness. The Maricopa Regional Continuum of Care award of $35,726,942 provides funding for 32 local homelessness programs.
The announcement comes on the heels of the most recent street count, which found more than 5,000 individuals in unsheltered homeless situations in the region.
The funding will support the following:
- 28 programs that provide housing and services for individuals and families experiencing homelessness.
- Coordinated Entry projects to prioritize and place individuals and families in appropriate housing.
- The Homeless Management Information System, a local information technology system used to collect data on the provision of housing and services to individuals and families experiencing homelessness.
- Funding for Continuum of Care planning.
A complete list of funded projects is attached.
The Maricopa Association of Governments staffs the Continuum of Care and develops the application for HUD on behalf of the region.
The Continuum of Care is made up of representatives from the public sector, private sector and nonprofit organizations. The Continuum of Care Board assumes responsibility for the development and submission of the annual coordinated grant application for the HUD Continuum of Care homeless assistance funds.
