Dunlap Ave Phoenix, AZ 85021 We would like to invite the school crossing guards and interested school officials that serve in your school district to attend one of three half-day Regional School Crossing Guard Training Workshops that will be held prior to the start of the next school year. The first workshop will be held on July 30, 2013 in Phoenix, the second will be held on August 1, 2013 in Mesa, and the third will be held on August 6, 2013 in Peoria. These workshops are part of a regional effort to help improve road safety. The workshop content was developed in partnership with a number of cities in the Phoenix metropolitan region. We hope to see participation by crossing guards from schools in your district. Following the workshops we plan to distribute safety vests to all workshop participants via their School Districts. There is no cost to attend these workshops. As the regional planning agency for the Phoenix metropolitan region, we are working with all the cities and towns in this region to improve road safety. Improving Safety on Access Routes to Schools, is identified as a goal in the MAG Strategic Transportation Safety Plan. The support of School Districts is essential to address this issue effectively. Providing education and training to school crossing guards in the region is a basic, but an essential step to ensure that crossing guards do not compromise their own safety nor that of children while performing their duties. All three workshops will have identical content. We will be providing Spanish translation services for those who need it. Many cities in the region recommend this workshop for all K-8 schools within their city limits. Please note that the City of Phoenix will not be holding a separate training event this year. For event planning purposes we would like to request that interested schools, organizations and individuals register for the workshops indicating the number of attendees requiring Spanish translation services. Please distribute this announcement to all K-8 schools in your district, requesting them to use the enclosed registration form and have it faxed to reach us by July 22, 2013.
