The Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ) and Maricopa Association of Governments (MAG) will jointly conduct two public hearings on the Draft Eight-Hour Ozone Plan for the Maricopa Nonattainment Area on June 1 and June 4, 2007, at 5:30 p.m. The purpose of these hearings is to receive public comments.According to the federal Clean Air Act, an eight-hour ozone plan is required to be submitted to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. The plan contains a variety of air pollution control measures such as summer reformulated gasoline, vehicle emissions testing, traffic signal coordination, intelligent transportation systems, and a County rule for polystyrene foam operations. The plan demonstrates attainment of the eight-hour ozone standard by June 15, 2009 with federal, state, and local control measures that have already been implemented in the Maricopa nonattainment area.
