Please note that when we refer to the Greater Phoenix Metropolitan area, we mean the city of Phoenix and the surrounding area within the county of Maricopa. Throughout this survey, we will simply call this area “the region.”

Below are definitions of terms used:
Light rail: (i.e., Valley Metro Rail): urban rail, usually operating in exclusive rights of way allowing passengers to board at street level.
Commuter rail: An extended regional rail line with faster track speeds and coordinated traffic signals connecting suburban and urban areas across the region with rail stations every 3 to 7 miles.
