MAG Chair Mayor Eric OrsbornPhoenix (June 24, 2026) – Buckeye Mayor Eric Orsborn was elected as chair of the Maricopa Association of Governments (MAG) Regional Council today during the agency’s annual meeting. As the agency’s new chair, Orsborn said his top priority is to ensure strong regional coordination and responsible stewardship of the voter-approved Proposition 479 funding.

  • Mayor Orsborn previously served as MAG Vice Chair and succeeds El Mirage Mayor Alexis Hermosillo, who becomes Past Chair.
  • Queen Creek Mayor Julia Wheatley will serve as Vice Chair.
  • Phoenix Mayor Kate Gallego will serve as Treasurer.
  • At-large members elected to the MAG Regional Council Executive Committee include:
    • Mayor Scott Anderson, Town of Gilbert
    • Mayor Mark Freeman, City of Mesa
    • Mayor Jerry Weiers, City of Glendale
  • The MAG Regional Council is a 33-member board that serves as the governing and policy-making body for MAG.

“Over the course of the next year, my focus will be to put the safety of our region first,” said Chair Orsborn. “We are reevaluating our approach to safety and elevating it as a priority. We will take a deeper dive into the data to understand regional trends and challenges, and explore potential solutions, including countermeasures and updated processes.”

“Proposition 479 is no longer a plan on paper; it is underway. Projects are moving forward across the region, and our role is to ensure strong regional coordination and responsible stewardship of the voter-approved funding that makes this work possible,” Orsborn noted.
