US 60 (Grand Avenue) – Loop 303 to SR 74 Corridor Study Nears Completion

Phoenix (November 5, 2025) - While rapid population growth in the Northwest Valley has been a boost for the region’s economy it has also created challenges for drivers who travel along the US 60 (Grand Avenue) between Loop 303 and SR 74.

The Maricopa Association of Governments (MAG) is nearing completion of a study to address the current congestion problems and plan for additional improvements over time. Working in partnership with the cities of Surprise and Peoria, the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT), and the Maricopa County Department of Transportation (MCDOT), MAG has prepared a series of recommendations as part of the US 60 (Grand Avenue) – Loop 303 to SR 74 Corridor Study.

The public is invited to an open house on Thursday, November 13 to learn more about recommendations to address current traffic congestion and future anticipated travel needs, discuss transportation alternatives for future corridor improvements, and provide feedback.

Why It Is Important

The purpose of the study is to conduct a comprehensive assessment of both current and future travel demands within the area surrounding US 60 (see study area map) and identify a series of transportation investments that will accommodate the future traffic demand along the US 60 corridor.

Through rigorous modeling, community outreach, and identification of key arterial street corridors, the study aims to develop a realistic future network for the study area.

By The Numbers

  • In 2020, the study area had a population of less than 37,000 people. Today, it has reached 50,000. It will grow to 107,000 by 2030 and 242,000 people by 2050.
  • The segment of US 60 (Grand Avenue) between 163rd Avenue and Loop 303 carries about 60,000 vehicles per day.
  • Traffic demand on the section of US 60 (Grand Avenue) near Loop 303 is projected to grow from 60,000 vehicles per day to over 160,000 in 2050.
