Electrification Readiness

The Regional Electrification Readiness Strategic Plan will prepare the MAG region for an increasingly electric future. The strategic plan will include a range of recommendations and strategies to enhance electrification readiness for MAG and its member agencies. The study will accomplish these three main objectives:

1. Assess the current and future state of electrification and regional implications
2. Define roles and responsibilities for applicable strategies
3. Identify strategic funding opportunities and next steps for action

What is Electrification?

Electrification means replacing technologies and services that run on fossil fuels (coal, oil, natural gas) with ones that use electricity as a source of energy. Electricity may be generated from renewable or nonrenewable sources.

Schedule

The project kicked off in August 2022 and is expected to conclude in May 2023.
