Study Background
The Town of Wickenburg is a regional hub located northwest of the Phoenix metropolitan area, providing critical connections between rural communities and the urban core. Its transportation network is defined by three state-managed highways — US 60, US 93, and State Route 89 (SR 89) — that carry a mix of local, regional, and interstate traffic. These corridors, along with the Town’s local streets and rural roadways, serve a diverse set of travel needs, from commuter trips and goods movement to seasonal tourism traffic.
The TAMP will address current and future mobility needs by identifying a balanced and “right-sized” transportation network that reflects the unique context of Wickenburg. The plan will establish a roadway classification system, align roadway design with adjacent land uses, and incorporate multimodal improvements to enhance safety, connectivity, and access for all users. It will also evaluate opportunities to improve north–south connectivity between US 93 and US 60, strengthen network resiliency, and ensure reliable travel options in the event of roadway closures or emergencies.
Once complete, the Wickenburg TAMP will serve as a guiding framework for capital improvement planning, development review, and grant funding applications. It will establish clear priorities, cost estimates, and policies to guide decision-making, ensuring that Wickenburg’s transportation system meets current needs while preparing for future demands.
