MAG City of Maricopa Transit Study Photo

About the Project

As the City of Maricopa grows and evolves, preparing for future mobility needs is more important than ever. The Maricopa Association of Governments’ (MAG) is leading the City of Maricopa Transit Study to explore new ways to enhance local public transit options and strengthen community connectivity. The study also provides opportunities for community input to help shape services that best meet the needs of the City of Maricopa residents while building on the newly modernized Maricopa Express Transit (MET) transit system.

The City of Maricopa Transit Study will:

  • Review how MET is performing. Benchmarking MET against peer transit systems will highlight where MET is excelling and where additional effort is needed to improve efficiency, service, or outreach.
  • Define a vision for the system. The Transit Study is leveraging input from the public, city staff, and stakeholders to guide long-term improvements that align with the community’s evolving needs and projected growth.
  • Analyze ridership trends. Quantitative and qualitative assessments of transit user activity and testimonials will help the city maximize the impact of available public transit funding to address the transportation needs of the community.
  • Increase awareness of the City’s transit services. The Transit Study is gathering input to shape future investments while also helping residents learn more about current public transit services, how they operate, and how transit can support everyday travel needs.

Current Transit Services

The City of Maricopa operates a fixed-route circulator service that runs hourly and serves popular destinations for shopping, medical, recreational, educational and community locations across the city including grocery and retail centers, Pacana Park, Central Arizona College, Maricopa City Library and Maricopa Community Center.

In 2024, the City of Maricopa launched a new microtransit service to supplement the Maricopa Express Transit (MET) bus route. This microtransit service added an on-demand, curb-to-curb, ride service that allows for same day ride requests anywhere in Maricopa’s city limits.

You can learn more information about existing MET services, schedules, fares, and the MET Mobile App on the city’s transit webpage.
