General News, News, Transportation Prop 479 March 18, 2026 In 2024, Maricopa County voters once again chose to invest in the region’s future. With the passage of Proposition 479, the half-cent sales tax that supports our roads, freeways and public transportation system will continue for another 20 years, keeping projects on track and our region moving safely and efficiently. This milestone is the result of decades of partnership among our 32 cities and towns, counties, and Native nations that are MAG member agencies, as well as business leaders, stakeholders, and, of course, our residents. It reflects disciplined planning, responsible stewardship of public funds, and a clear understanding that transportation is foundational to opportunity, connecting people to jobs, schools, healthcare and to each other. Without the funding from Prop 479, our region’s growth would have halted, leaving our businesses and neighbors without the connectivity that makes our community work. On March 6, 2026, we broke ground on the first project under Prop 479, the I-17/Loop 303 system traffic interchange. This event celebrated not only the start of a critical project, but it also recognized that we are keeping our promise to deliver the voter-approved vision for mobility, economic vitality, and quality of life. On behalf of the MAG Regional Council, thank you to the voters and to the many public servants whose dedication made this moment possible. The work begins now, and the future of our region is stronger because of it. Mayor Alexis Hermosillo Chair, MAG Regional Council Published March 18, 2026
