What is the System Performance Report?

The System Performance Report is an annual document highlighting the performance of transportation systems within the MAG region. Information is gathered from various transportation modes at multiple scales to provide a holistic view of transportation performance, allowing for deeper analysis of conditions within the system. From such analyses, MAG can make thoughtful, informed planning decisions that positively impact communities. As the region continues to grow and new projects are undertaken, MAG will continue to employ performance-based planning to keep equity and stakeholder perspectives at the core of MAG's work.

What is included in the System Performance Report?

The System Performance Report documents the MAG region’s adherence to reporting on Federal Performance Measures 1-3 which include safety performance, bridge and pavement condition, system reliability, and emission reduction targets. MAG also reports on Transit Asset Management (TAM), and Public Transportation Agency Safey Plans (PTASP) targets for the region.

Along with the mandated reporting of these performance measures, MAG reports on regional mobility and congestion by analyzing recurring congestion and freeway bottlenecks in the system. Finally, MAG uses the System Performance Report as an opportunity to publish special interest chapters relevant to the evaluation of the transportation system, such as new modes of transit or accessibility and equity across the network.

Purpose of the System Performance Report

The System Performance Report is essential for assessing how the transportation network in the MAG region is evolving and improving. It functions as a comprehensive instrument for evaluating how well the current transportation system adheres to established targets and performance measures. This annual assessment is needed for identifying the system’s efficiency and highlighting areas in need of improvement. The report assists with future planning and decision-making by giving a clear picture of the network’s current condition and it’s alignment with regional goals. This helps to ensure that changes and growth in the transportation system are both strategic and responsive to community needs.
